좋은 하루 보내셨나요?

 

코로나로 두 달 넘게

봉쇄 조치로 갇혀 지냈던 미국인들이

해당 조치가 풀린후 처음으로

긴 연휴를 맞았다고 합니다.

 

사회적 거리두기는 아예 무시되고

해변에는 사람이 가득,

수영장 파티에는 2미터 이상 떨어지라는

경고문이 무색하게

사람들로 한 가득했다고 하네요.

물론 마스크도 쓰지 않고요. 

 

정부 당국도 이러한 모습에

코로나 재감염 확산을 계속 

경고하고 있다고 하는데, 

아랑곳하지 않는 모습들을 보니, 

 

우리가 선진국으로 알아왔던 미국도..

시민 의식도..

허울 좋은 이미지 포장의 결과가 아니었을까 

싶네요. 

 

물론 모든 미국인이 그런 건 아니겠지만요

 

일국의 대통령이라는 사람이 사망자가 10만 명이 넘어가는데

주말 내내 마스크도 쓰지않고 골프를 즐겼다고 하니..

 

우리나라로 치면 국민 정서상

탄핵감일 것 같은데..

 

개인주의가 강해서 일까요?...

서양인들의 정서는 좀 다른가 봅니다. 

 

그 나라 국민의 수준 만큼의  대통령이 뽑힌다는 말처럼..

요즘 보면

미국이 딱 

그 예에 해당하는것 같습니다.

The New York Times has filled the entire front page of Sunday’s paper with the death notices of COVID-19 victims from across the country.

In a decision the paper said was intended to convey the vastness and variety of the tragedy, the front page is a simple list of names and personal details taken from obituaries around the US.

The headline is “US deaths near 100,000, an incalculable loss”, with a sub-heading that reads: “They were not simply names on a list. They were us.”

Cases of serious crimes in South Africa have plummeted since local authorities imposed a lockdown in late March. But police still have been kept busy apprehending people for breaking the rules aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

There were 1,072 murders committed in the country between March 27 and May 19, a 64% drop from the same period a year ago. Assault was down 80% and robbery with aggravating circumstances fell by 64% over the period.

The police have meanwhile logged 230,000 contraventions of the lockdown rules, including violations of bans on large gatherings and alcohol and tobacco sales.
